Leatherman Kick Multi Tool - An Appealing Choice That’s Lightweight But Still Equipped With Useful Tools
Posted by admin
The Leatherman Kick is an impressive pocket tool - a smidgen smaller than the original PST, but with a lower overall weight.
The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a series of 3 pocket tools created by Leatherman, the alternative’s being the Fuse and the Blast.
Leatherman Kick - A Lightweight Tool
The Leatherman Kick benefits from plastic inlayed into the body of the multi tool to make it far more comfortable to carry than the previous PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a very welcome addition, as people who have purchased and used a PST will confirm! The set of pliers have been redesigned to mazimise strength without having an impact on the multi tool’s size or bulk, and seems to have made a difference- they are peculiar to look at for people who are used to other tools, on the other hand this is a tool, not a fashion parade, and they do the job.
The Leatherman Kick also incorporates a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, a couple of flathead screwdrivers, as well as a clip- point knife. The tool options may be minimal on this one, although remember, it is the smallest of a series of products. The plus side is that the tools (particularly the screwdrivers) appear to be a little better than other multi’s - the shafts are a little longer, giving little more versatility than usual, and an improved chance at difficult to get to screws. It’s a small detail, but it really does add up - especially if it’s the only tool you have with you and the screw is buried inside of something.
Note the Extended Screwdriver
There is no doubt about it, the Kick is a well thought out tool, but it does have it’s drawbacks. Due to it’s low weight, the Kick feels inadequate. As it is backed by Leatherman’s 25 year guarantee, it is a very sturdy tool, but in comparison to several different tools both larger and smaller, it doesn’t appear to be quite as robust. It also might seem a little small to those with bigger hands.
Most importantly, even with the lack of numerous tools on the product, it still suffers from Leatherman’s infamous curse, tool clumping. How can it be, that a handle with just three tools built in, all pull out whilst you try to get only one? With revised designs of multi tools, this issue should be a forgotten memory.
The Leatherman Kick is good value for money, but not a good choice for a heavy user or a bigger person. I would say it is better suited as a small tool for a lady’s handbag or as a kid’s first tool. It could be referred to as a “cute” tool for people that rarely need tools although like to be prepared.
