There are 3 words that I never imagined I’d ever say in a single sentence : Las Vegas camping. Somehow the terms just don’t appear to mesh, do they ?. This is perhaps why I told my husband he was mad when he said that he scheduled a Vegas camping trip last year.
When most of us think about Las Vegas, campgrounds aren’t the first thing that is evoked. With all of the top Las Vegas hostels available, all the casinos and shows, many of us never think of this as a destination although we might love being outside. Yet, as well as being one of the greatest locations for travellers who aspire to live the high life, Las Vegas is also one of the finest places to experience the great outside. Las Vegas camping is truly top-notch.
Of course, Vegas camp grounds vary awfully significantly in quality, so you have got to do your analysis carefully. Las Vegas camping is only truly a good idea if you are there for more than just the shows, nightlife and casinos. By all means take a trip or two into town but the main reason for camping should be the outdoor attractions that you will find in the proximity of your campsite. The truth is, if you want good Vegas camping at a reasonable price, you have to get well outside the city boundaries. Otherwise, all you may find will be drive-in camping at way higher costs than you really should have to pay. The best Vegas camping is along one of the streams that flow through the state of Nevada. As an example, you can canoe below the Hoover dam on the Colorado River. There are lots of campgrounds in Las Vegas, but unless you have a specific area to mind , or you want to combine a visit to “sin city” with a camping trip then there are much better locations for you to take your vacation.
The explanation for this is that Vegas camping tends to be a bit rough. The weather will invariably be exceedingly hot, and there is a lack of the cool shady wooded areas that the majority like on their camping trips. This isn’t to claim that you need to give up on Vegas camping. It can offer its own rewards, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The first day of our Vegas camping journey was really uncomfortable especially since I was dressed from head to toe.
Wear shorts and a t-shirt. Trust me. You may expect to do a large amount of walking during the Vegas camping trip and you actually wish to keep cool. Otherwise you might find yourself feeling beat and uncomfortable.
